Abdus Salam School of Mathematical Sciences offers a full time MPhil and PhD program in Mathematics. The School aspires to be a center of excellence in mathematical sciences carrying out cutting edge research which pushes the frontiers of knowledge.
Admission Requirements for the PhD Program
Applicants having an MPhil/MS or equivalent degree in Mathematics with thesis, from an institution recognized by HEC, are eligible to apply if they have at least 3.00/4.00 CGPA or First Division in MPhil/MS or equivalent degree program. Applicants waiting for the result of their final examination or those in the final semester of the MPhil/MS or equivalent degree program can also apply.
Admission to the program will be based upon past academic performance, admission test and interview conducted by the School. Applicants will also have to qualify subject GRE (International)/local GAT or the AS-SMS test, whichever is applicable, for admission in the PhD Program.
Financial assistance will be provided to all admitted students.
The PhD admission test will be three hours long with five questions of subjective type. Four questions will be from topics for the GRE subject test available at: https://www.ets.org/gre/subject/about/content/mathematics.
The applicant will pick the fifth question from one of the following advanced topics.
- Algebra and Number Theory
- Applied Mathematics
- Geometry and Topology
- Mathematical Analysis
- Discrete Mathematics
- The last date to apply for admission is March 30, 2018.
- The admission test will be conducted on April 28, 2018.
- Only short-listed candidates will be called for the interview.
