The Abdus Salam School of Mathematical Sciences started in 2003 to serve as a center of excellence for advanced studies and research in mathematical sciences. It is a graduate school and its main objective is to help develop mathematical sciences in Pakistan by training students to serve in institutions of higher education and research. The school takes various initiatives for disseminating to the Pakistani academic community the latest developments in mathematical sciences.
The school provides funding to its graduate students and encourages top quality research in all branches of mathematical sciences. It also facilitates young researchers by funding those at an early stage of their research career with postdoctoral fellowships supervised by established research teams who have achieved international recognition for their work. The aim of postdoctoral fellowships is to support young researchers and enhance their skills and understanding by helping them interact with best mathematicians in the world.
The School organizes a large number of seminars, colloquia, research schools, intensive courses and lecture series which are open to all students and faculty in the country.
The school was honored by being named one of three emerging regional centers of excellence by the European Mathematical Society. UNESCO and the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in collaboration with world-famous Center International de Mathématiques Pureset Appliquées (CIMPA), choose the school as one of the only two centers of advanced studies from all over the world to fund the advanced level workshops in 2012. The success stories of the school have appeared in AMS notices and in EMS newsletter.
